Voice to Parliament
Overview
Australian people come from many lands, practise many faiths and speak many languages. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are the First Peoples of Australia and have lived here for more than 65,000 years. But Australia’s Constitution doesn’t recognise their unique status.
In 2023, Australians had a chance to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our Constitution, through a Voice ensuring they are heard on issues that affect them. In conjunction with Life Without Barriers and a range of partner organisations, we translated resources to engage all Australians, no matter what their cultural background is.

The Campaign
In conjunction with Life Without Barriers and partner organisations, we translated the largest, freely available body of community-translated, accessible factsheets, video and audio materials about the 2023 Voice to Parliament Referendum in Australia.
The campaign had two key phases; the first phase introduced people to the Referendum and the second phase informed them about key details. Over 100 translations were created with partner organisations including Life Without Barriers, Reconciliation Australia, SNAICC – National Voice for our children and the Yes Alliance.
The Work
The Voice to Parliament resources include a fact sheet, a social media toolkit and a video recording to inform Australians about the upcoming referendum and why their vote matters.
We translated all resources into over 45 languages including Auslan, Arabic, Assyrian, Bengali, Bosnian, Burmese, Chinese (S), Chinese (T), Croatian, Dari, Dutch, Farsi, French, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Macedonian, Malayalam, Maltese, Nepali, Pashto, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Serbian, Sinhalese, Spanish, Somali, Swahili, Tagalog, Tamil, Thai, Turkish, Urdu, Vietnamese and 5 Aboriginal languages.
